Moose Birthday

Another challenge card for you today, inspired by the As You See It Challenge Blog.

Here’s the theme challenge:

I decided to take the tree theme and go with the autumn colours, using my beloved Merry Moose stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

I love moose! How many other creatures do you know of that are so majestic and awkward-looking at the same time!

The card base is Mossy Meadow. I deepened the colour by sponging Mossy Meadow ink around the edges of the card base. In fact, I was a happy little sponger and did that with all of the paper pieces on this card (excluding the Very Vanilla matte, which I left clean. Each piece has the edges sponged with the coordinating ink.

The Crushed Curry background layer has multiple trees from the Merry Moose stamp set, stamped with Cajun Craze ink. Some are stamped full strength and some are stamped off to create some depth to the scene. I also added a strip of Crushed Curry cardstock, which was stamped with the Buffalo Check background stamp from Stampin’ Up!. For that I used Crushed Curry ink for a tone on tone effect. The Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Stampin’ Up! host stamp set, New Wonders, and is stamped with Cajun Craze ink.

You can also see that I used the Woodland Embossing Folder on the Cajun Craze strip of cardstock and the Subtles Embossing Folder on the circle, which was punched from Early Espresso paper with the 2-1/4″ circle punch.

My moose was stamped with Early Espresso ink on Whisper White cardstock. I used my Blender Pen to drag some of the ink from the lines of the image and shade my moose. I also coloured around the outside of my moose after I punched him out (ooh, that sounds so violent!) with the coordinating Moose Punch. I don’t like leaving a white edge around a cut image very often and choose to coordinate it with whatever the colour is behind it. A bit of sponging was added to the edges of my moose in Soft Suede ink to add a little bit more shading.

The Mossy Meadow linen thread was tied around the Cajun Craze piece of cardstock before adhering it and the Early Espresso circle to my card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The moose is also on dimensionals.

Everything is Pumpkin Spice

BAAAHHHHH! IT’S SEPTEMBER!! Where did the summer go!?

I am sad that the warm days are coming to an end, but I admit that I love the fall. It is my most favourite season of the year. There’s just one thing that is a little bit annoying …. everything is pumpkin spice! Pumpkin spice lotion (no real surprise here), pumpkin spice oolong tea (yup, I can go with that), pumpkin spice Oreo cookies (okay… ), Instant Oatmeal (I’d probably give that a try), Hershey’s Kisses (um… I’ll pass), Pumpkin Spice Peeps (no thank you), pumpkin spice Cheerios (definitely not!), Pumpkin Spice Popcorn (it’s Boomchickapop popcorn, so it’s probably really good, actually!), and even Pumpkin Spice Pringles potato chips (yikes!)! It doesn’t really stop there, but I won’t go on. You can also find spoof photos for Pumpkin Spice cigarettes, rifle cartridges, mouth wash, feminine hygiene products, contraceptives, and weed killer!

I’m pretty sure it all started with Starbucks and their Pumpkin Spice Latte that is adored and sought after by so many of you latte junkies out there. I’m actually not a fan of having cinnamon or nutmeg in my lattes. If I choose flavouring at all, I order the cascara latte (my fave when it’s available) or the toffee nut latte.

As far as pumpkin spice goes – bring on the pumpkin pie!! That’s all I need.

… and maybe a scented candle.

… and those Boomchickapop popcorn (if you can get your hands on some, send them my way!)

Okay, enough about all things pumpkin spice! Here’s the As You See It Sketch Challenge.

I love my coffee stamps. This card uses the Merry Cafe stamp set and the Coffee Cafe stamp set with the Coffee Cups Framelits dies.

You can see the beautiful Cable Knit embossing folder in Soft Sky cardstock on the card base. I love the large gingham/plaid patterned paper from the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper Stack! I used patterned paper from the Color Theory paper stack for the coffee cup and the lid. The sleeve for the coffee cup is stamped on a piece of patterned paper from the Coffee Break designer series paper.

A little bit of sponging with Crushed Curry ink on the base of the coffee cup and on the edge of the lid adds some depth to the colours. Linen Thread is the perfect fall touch to wrap behind the coffee cup over the Old Olive and Basic Black layers. The Pear Pizzazz Enamel Shapes are just a fun pop of playfulness. And I love the stitched edge on the Basic Black circle that was die cut using the Big Shot and the Stitched Shapes Framelits. The stitching marks make a boring black circle much more interesting, don’t you think?

Stampin’ Up Dimensionals really make things pop on a card. Flat cards are a rare thing for me. I love my Dimensionals, particularly the new Mini Dimensionals that Stampin’ Up put out. The smaller size allows for much more functionality and for a longer lasting package (without cutting them in half!!)

Fall Cheer

Here we are again on a Friday where I get to share my designs for the As You See It Challenge blog. Challenge #57 is a fall theme!

The theme today is fall, but I didn’t feel much like doing the leaf thing and the typical fall colours (though I didn’t COMPLETELY deviate from the theme, lol!). I was minding my own business, leading a class through their 12 Christmas cards, when I decided I’d better take the opportunity of a lull and get my challenge card designed. I grabbed a bin of scraps and looked at the stamp sets we were working with – Ah yes, there was the Making Spirits Bright stamp set! AHA!

It is for this very stamp that I purchased this cute stamp set with various holiday glasses and sentiments. I just loved the eyeball in place of an olive!

So I still have the traditional green, yellow and orange for fall colours, but I love the addition of the blue and black. Here I have Lost Lagoon for the card base, Hello Honey and Basic Black layers over the Whisper White mat, then an Old Olive piece cut with the Top Note die in the Big Shot and sponged around the edges with a little bit of Mossy Meadow ink. Finally, the Whisper White with a splash of Tangelo Twist ink (stamped with one of the Gorgeous Grunge stamps) to show off the stamped image. I even added a touch of the Medium Night of Navy Blendability marker to the iris of my eyeball (no offense to fellow brown-eyed beauties, I just thought blue would show up a bit better)

You can see in the image above, that I used Stampin’ Up Dimensionals under the Old Olive cut out layer and the Whisper White circle. Flat cards and I are not often friends. I try. Sometimes we gel, sometimes we don’t.

And, Baby Cakes, I even added a fall-themed stamp to the inside of my card! I’m thankful for fun drink glasses with fun things inside them (like eyeballs) and I’m thankful for friends to enjoy them with!
